Do you enjoy painting? If not, you probably have already considered contracting a professional painter. Doing so will help take some things off of your plate. But, be aware. There are things you need to know before hiring someone to do your painting.

What you need to know before hiring a painter:

  1. What are others saying about them and their work?
  2. What type of paint are they using?
  3. How long until the job is completed?
  4. When is your payment due?

What are others saying about them and their work?

It is important that you do your research before contracting a painter. Go online to read their reviews to find out how satisfied or unsatisfied individuals were with their work. You don’t want to hire someone who doesn’t finish the job or someone who does a poor job. When you do your research you are less likely to run into these troubles.

What type of paint are they using?

You don’t want to hire someone who uses cheap paint. Using cheap paint now will only cost you later. You want to hire a painter who knows what paint needs to be used in a specific room. You will also want to know if the cost of paint is included in the job estimate. If not, you will want to discuss that cost. Last but not least, be sure to ask how many coats of paint will be applied. This will affect the cost of the job and the look of the wall(s).

How long until the job is completed?

Are you in the middle of a move or have a timeline? It is important to know what days the contractor will be working and how long it will take to complete the job. You don’t want to walk into a job with no idea when the work will be done. Ask the appropriate questions and you will be happy you did.

When is your payment due?

How do you have to pay and when? Will your contractor set up a payment plan or need money upfront to secure the job? It is important for you to be confident in the person you are hiring. Remember, if the contractor demands full payment before the job is completed you may want to consider hiring someone else. Always document payments and date paid. Never pay in cash so that you will always have a record.
