Before you sell your home you must do these home improvement projects

You may be ready to throw that “For Sale” sign in your front yard and call it a day, but it’s not that easy. If you want your home to sell well, you must take a little time (before officially listing your home) to take care of some of the projects you’ve been putting off.

Here are four home improvement projects you need to complete before putting your home up for sale:

  1. The lawn and landscape
  2. The floors
  3. The doors and windows
  4. The walls

The lawn and landscape

Did you know that first impressions are everything? The first thing people will see when they pull in your drive is the landscape. Your curb appeal could change the game for you and your home. It won’t take much time or money to pull the weeds and plant some new life in front of your home. After all, a beautiful lawn could help a potential buyer sign on the dotted line a bit quicker than if you were to leave it undone and unkept.

The floors

Dirty flooring can really turn potential buyers away. If your floors are dirty, it will give buyers a feeling that your home needs more work than they might be willing to do. If you don’t have the money to replace flooring and carpet before selling, consider buying a floor cleaner or calling the professionals to come clean your carpet and hardwood floors.

The doors and windows

Does your home have creaky doors and cracked windows? Buyers will be checking these as they walk through each room of your house. The majority of buyers don’t want to pour a ton of money into their new home when they move in. If you take the time to take care of these items – like replacing cracked windows and greasing creaking doors – it will leave a great impression on potential buyers.

The walls

After being in your home day after day, you probably don’t notice the fingerprints on the walls, chipped paint, faded paint, or dark walls. Believe it or not, the color of the walls is one of the things that buyers notice the most, since they take up so much room in the house. If you don’t have time to add a new coat of paint, try washing your walls for a cleaner look and feel.
