Have you just moved to a new neighborhood? If so, first impressions are everything. You don’t want to be labeled as the unfriendly neighbor in a community that’s very involved. Whether you’ve moved into a subdivision or out in the country it is important to show yourself friendly in all aspects. In order to be sure that your neighbors feel comfortable around you we want to provide you with a few helpful tips.
How to be a good neighbor:
- Make eye contact when you see them out.
- Take care of your yard.
- Make sure your pets aren’t causing problems.
- Attend the neighborhood parties.
Make eye contact when you see them out.
Nothing is more rude than avoiding eye contact, smiling, or waving at your neighbor when you see them out, especially if they are being friendly towards you. It doesn’t always have to be a long conversation or offering a helping hand, but showing yourself friendly will go a long way. You don’t want to be known as the neighborhood scrooge because in all reality you never know when you are going to need the help of a neighbor. Be kind, always.
Take care of your yard.
Being a homeowner means that you have the responsibility of taking care of your home. Especially when you live in a neighborhood, it is important to keep your grass cut and weeds pulled because not only does it make your home look nice it reflects on the other surrounding homes. It is better to make your neighbors envious of your beautiful yard than to make them turn their nose up due to it being unkept.
Make sure your pets aren’t causing problems.
Are your pets doing their business in the neighbor’s yard or on the sidewalk? If so, be sure to clean it up! You would be surprised how many people walk their dogs and don’t clean up after them. Also, if your pets aren’t on a leash or are barking at all hours of the night it will leave a bad taste in your neighbor’s mouth due to you not taking care of your animals. Animals not on a leash also have the potential to cause harm, and you don’t want a lawsuit on your hands due to a simple fix. A leash.
Attend the neighborhood parties.
If you are invited to a neighborhood block party, do your best to try and attend even it’s for a little bit. Also, don’t forget to bring your favorite dish. It may seem like a lot of work, especially if you’ve had a busy week, but if you don’t try and attend you may stop getting invited.
Now that we’ve provided you with a few tips on how to be a good neighbor, get out there and show yourself friendly.
