When you feel the weather shift, you know the holiday season is here. But, most forget that their home needs a little TLC before the colder months arrive. This time of year brings a lot more new activities, dinners, guests, and shopping than any other time of year. You don’t want to find yourself behind with your regular day-to-day activities, that is why we want to help you get ready now!

How to prepare your home this November.

  1. Inspect your smoke detectors.
  2. Update your emergency kit.
  3. Get a security system in place.
  4. Prepare for holiday visitors.

Inspect your smoke detectors.

When is the last time you’ve checked your smoke detectors? It’s important that you check the batteries at least twice a year, if not more. You should find a smoke detector on every level of your home, in bedrooms, utility rooms, and in the kitchen. You want to be sure that your home is covered in case of an emergency.

Update your emergency kit.

With the holidays often comes snow. You want to be sure that your emergency kit has no expired or faulty items, that you have enough batteries, edible food, and candles in case of a power outage. This emergency kit should last you days or even a week if you are unable to leave your home. You can never be too prepared when it comes to your safety.

Get a security system in place.

Who is watching over your home? A lot of burglaries tend to take place around Christmas time because a lot of us are purchasing gifts and bringing them home until the big day. No matter the time of year it is important that you have a quality system in place that will scare away potential intruders and keep you and your belongings safe. You don’t want to put a price on good protection.

Prepare for holiday visitors.

Do you tend to have company during the holidays? If so, you know how important it is that you prepare beforehand. Whether you need to clean your home or do laundry and put clean sheets on the bed, you know it can all be overwhelming. Go ahead and set out your decorations, cut some firewood, bake some cookies, and welcome the holidays and all the joy they bring right into your home. After all, you’ve got this!
