How to make the move easier for your pets
Author: RSRE   August 10, 2019

Pets are an important part of most families. That is why on moving day it is really important that you take the necessary time and energy to make sure that your pet has a smooth transition from your old residence to the new one. If you are unsure of what you should do, we hope to help you with that.

How to make the move easier for your pets:

  1. Board them
  2. Don’t wash their things
  3. Don’t change their setup too much
  4. Keep the same routine

Board them

Moving day or week can be plain chaotic. That is why you want to keep your pets out of the way, especially harm’s way. You will be moving your belongings from one place to the next, and you want to keep your beloved members of the family safe and stress-free. Don’t let your life get too stressful that you forget to make arrangements with your boarder or family member to keep your pets while you are moving.

Don’t wash their things

Did you know that the familiar smell of your pet’s belongings gives them a sense of familiarity? That’s why it is important to keep your pet’s old things and not purchase new ones. The more familiar they are with their surroundings when the big day arrives, the easier the transition for them and you.

Don’t change their setup too much

You may move into your new home and want all things new, but your pet doesn’t. It is important to keep your pet’s items where they go. For example, if their food dishes were usually kept in the kitchen try and keep them in the same spot. You don’t want to stress your pet out too much and cause them anxiety. You can make small changes as time progresses, but don’t do it all at once.

Keep the same routine

We’ve already covered the chaos that comes with moving. That is even more reason why you need to leave your pet’s routine the same. If you feed them every three hours, be sure to keep them on that same schedule. If you waiver too much, it can stress your pet out. They love routines and things that are familiar. If they still seem stressed after the move, be sure to take them to their vet for further examination.
