Does your clutter stress you out? Over the years, it seems that we collect more and more stuff. This stuff gets shoved anywhere that has an opening. Whether it’s under the bed, in a closet, basement, or it just piles up out in the open. Studies show that the more cluttered our homes become the more stress and anxiety we feel. Are you looking to change the way your home makes you feel? If so, it’s time to declutter.
3 ways to declutter your home:
- Donate to charity.
- Have a garage sale.
- Throw it away.
Donate to charity.
Want to feel like your stuff is going to a worthy cause? Donate it to charity. Giving your possessions, like clothes and furniture, to organizations that give it to the needy for free or at a discounted rate is a great way for your things to find life in another home. Charities always like for items in good condition to add to their merchandise. If you aren’t sure of a charity in your area try searching for one on Google.
Have a garage sale.
Garage sales are great if you have extra time to sit outside and wait for people to come by. If you are going to have a garage sale try having it at the same time as other community sales, post it on social media, and hang up flyers at local businesses. Getting the word out will help drive foot traffic. Having a garage sale is also a great way to make some extra money on your stuff if you aren’t too keen about giving it away.
Throw it away.
Sometimes things just need to go in the trash because they may be old, broken, ripped, or faded. Sometimes things are beyond saving or giving away. You may be able to go through your things and just toss some items right in the trash. While this isn’t the best way for your items to be reused, it may be the only option.
Don’t forget, when you go through this process be sure to have an open mind. You want to remember why you are decluttering and how much more space you will have in your home, heart, and mind. Don’t focus on the things you’ve been too afraid to let go, but focus on all you will be gaining in return.
