Are you worried about buying or selling during the chilly winter months? Do you dread the thought of moving your belongings in and out of the house with unpredictable weather conditions? Worry no more! Moving in the winter isn’t as bad as it is made out to be. That’s why we want to provide you with some helpful tips to make the process a little easier.

Tips on how to successfully move in the winter months:

  1. Winter moving rates
  2. Plan for the unexpected
  3. Get organized
  4. Protect your floors from the wet and dirty snow

Winter moving rates

If you’ve ever used a moving company to help assist with a move then you know how expensive they can be, but during the winter they tend to have winter rates. Just like you, other people are scared to move during the winter months and are staying home. This means that moving companies need to make money! They will slash their rates and run sales to help bring people in. Take advantage of these deals and discounts when it comes to moving in the winter.

Plan for the unexpected

With winter comes unpredictable winter weather. That means there could be snow, icy, winter mix, unpredictable road conditions, etc. at any moment. Don’t rush your move and put yourself on a tight deadline that you aren’t able to meet if something comes up. Give yourself plenty of time so that you can relax if it snows the day of your move and makes it unbearable to get your car loaded up as you make the trip to your new destination.

Get organized

In order to save time where it counts, organize your boxes and items before your move. This will save you time and money so you can get moving and get out. Stop by your local store to get packaging, labels, bubble wrap, markers, etc. to help get your boxes packed.

Protect your floors from the wet and dirty snow

Ask your movers or helpers if they can remove their shoes before walking through your house so they don’t drag in any outside particles. If not, see about covering your floors with proper floor covering or purchase shoe covers. Doing so will save you time when it comes to cleaning your floors after all the moving is done.
